Australia to make Facebook, Google pay for news in world first

By Administrator_India Capital Sands Australia will force U.S. tech giants Facebook Inc and Alphabet Inc’s  Google to pay Australian media outlets for news content in a landmark move to protect independent journalism that will be watched around the world. Australia will become the first country to require Facebook and Google to pay for news content provided by media companies under a royalty-style system that will become law this year, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said. “It’s about a fair go for Australian news media businesses. It’s about ensuring that we have increased competition, increased consumer protection, and a sustainable media landscape,” Frydenberg told reporters in Melbourne. “Nothing less than the future of the Australian media landscape is at stake.” The move ...

In Mumbai’s slums, over half of population probably infected with coronavirus, survey says

By Administrator_India Capital Sands More than half the people living in Mumbai’s sprawling slums are probably infected with the novel coronavirus, which suggests the metropolis could be heading toward herd immunity, a government official and a health expert said on Wednesday, citing a recent survey. India has the world’s third-highest caseload of the virus, behind the United States and Brazil, and health officials have been hoping to flatten the curve or reduce the incidence of infections in the big cities that are driving the growth. About 57% of slum-dwellers have tested positive for antibodies for the coronavirus, from a random sample size of 7,000 people, according to the survey jointly conducted by Mumbai’s municipality, government think tank Niti Aayog and the Tata Insti...

Best Day Trading Platforms for 2020

Day Trading, which is buying and selling shares during the same trading session, exploded in popularity back in the booming stock market of the 1990s. Everyone was trying to get in and out of securities and make a profit on an intraday basis. After the dot-com market crash in 2000, the SEC and FINRA established the “Pattern Day Trader” rule in 2001, which increased the requirements to day trade in an effort to better protect consumers. To day trade today, you have at least $25,000 to comply with the Pattern Day Trader rule. Traders must also meet margin requirements. The government put these laws into place to protect investors. Bottom line: day trading is risky. To day trade effectively, you need to choose a day trading platform. As a day trader, you need a combination of low-cost tra...

Amazon to open 10 new India warehouses; offers insurance

By Administrator_India Capital Sands Amazon.com Inc’s India unit on Thursday said it will open 10 new warehouses in the country and begin offering auto insurance, in moves that will help the e-commerce giant widen its reach in a key growth market. With the expansion, Amazon will have over 60 warehouses or fulfilment centres across 15 Indian states with an area equivalent to more than 100 football fields, the company said in a blog post. The new warehouses will be set up in 10 Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, it added. India is one of the fastest-growing markets for U.S.-based Amazon but one where it has also had to face regulatory hurdles, and a backlash from traders over accusations of offering discounts. On Thursday, Amazon also said that its local p...

Signs of farm ‘revolution’ in India as coronavirus prompts change

By Administrator_India Capital Sands For more than two decades, Indian farmer Ravindra Kajal cultivated rice the way his forefathers had - every June he flooded his fields with water before hiring an army of farmhands to plant paddy seedlings. But a scarcity of workers this year because of the coronavirus forced Kajal to change. He irrigated the field just enough to moisten the soil and leased a drilling machine to directly sow seeds on his 9-acre (3.6-hectare) plot. “Since I was more than comfortable with the tried-and-tested way of growing rice, I opted for the new method with some trepidation,” said Kajal, 46, looking over his field, green with rice saplings, in the Raipur Jattan village in Haryana state. “But I’ve already saved around 7,500 rupees ($100) per acre because...

India, U.S. closing in on trade deal

By Administrator_India Capital Sands India and the United States are closing in on a trade deal, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday, after two years of negotiations. India is seeking concessions for generic drugs it exports to the United States in return for opening its dairy markets and slashing tariffs on farm goods as the two sides seek to clinch a new trade accord, sources told. They have been negotiating a limited trade pact aimed also at restoring zero tariffs on a range of Indian exports to the United States under its Generalised System of Preferences , from which the Trump administration withdrew last year, citing lack of reciprocal access to Indian markets. “In the long term, I believe we have a quick trade deal which has some of the pending matters buil...

India seeks new preferential treatment from U.S. on drugs, other goods

By Administrator_India Capital Sands India is seeking concessions for generic drugs it exports to the United States in return for opening its dairy markets and slashing tariffs on farm goods as the two sides seek to shore up a new trade deal, three sources said. India accounts for 40% of U.S. generic drug imports, including the anti-malarial hydroxychloroquine, touted by U.S. President Donald Trump in the fight against the coronavirus. To win preferential treatment on pharmaceutical exports, the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dangling the carrot of opening its dairy and farm markets to the Trump administration, months ahead of the U.S. presidential election. India, one of the world’s largest consumers of dairy products, has offered an opening to U.S. dairy imp...
